Dance Classes

All of our dance class progressives run in the following terms: Fall (Sept – Dec), Winter (Jan – March), Spring (April – June) & Summer (July & August). Progressive classes are registration based and there are cut off dates each term usually 3 – 4 weeks into each new semester. After these dates registrations are closed and participants must wait until the following term to join a progressive class. To register please email [email protected]

Bellydance

Description: Bellydance classes are fun, uplifting and empowering. Posture, muscle isolations and dance movements are taught using a variety of stretch and strengthening exercises. In this class you will learn graceful techniques, layering movements and simple choreography. The classes are low-impact, can aid in stress reduction, and are likely to boost your self-esteem and body image. Come feel the magic and sensuality of bellydance and
leave each class with revived beauty and energy!

Hip Hop

Description: Hip hop is an energetic form of dance that is unique because it allows its dancers to perform with freedom of movement, adding in their own personalities. The hip hop culture was originally inspired and influenced by DJ’s, graffiti, rappers and B-boys and B-girls. This inspiration transcends into this upbeat high energy dance hour that will teach you to follow choreography and learn basic street dance movement. This class is great for beginners as well as advanced dancers alike and will provide a structured method of learning various hip hop dance movements in a fun-filled and vibrant class environment. This class is unique in regards to the design as it allows for new students to join the crew at any time without feeling lost and existing students to also build on choreography to complete a variety of dance routines. Ballet

Description: This class is designed to introduce and teach the basics of ballet to a true beginner. It will include elementary positions of classical ballet, some lyrical inspired ballet and instruction will focus on proper alignment in a casual, fun and non-threatening atmosphere. Have you ever wondered what it would be like to take a ballet class as an adult who never learnt how to dance as a child? Or perhaps you’d like to take your love for dance and learn how to have more grace, technique and style? This would be the class for you. Ballet attire and shoes are not required, come as you are in your fitness inspired clothing and wear your socked or bare feet. There is no bar, no hard fast rules or prima ballerina attitudes in this informal yet fun filled class.

Dance Fusion

Ages: All Ages

Style: Progressive

Dance Fusion is a chance to get a taste of several different styles of dance. You will get an introduction to a variety of genres that might include Hip Hop, Dancehall, Electrodance, Reggaeton, Afrobeats, KPop and more. Bring an open mind to this class as the genres change but one thing will stay the same. The class will certainly be held in a lively, no pressure environment. If you've always wanted to dance but didn't know what style of dance appeals to you, this is the perfect class for you! All these styles have techniques that will teach you how to be aware of the numerous areas of your body and how to move each of them in interesting new ways. Everyone CAN dance and this class is a perfect, easy way to learn about different genres from around the globe!

Hoop Dance

Description: Bored of your exercise routine? Try low impact, high energy, calorie blasting hooping. Learn mesmerizing hoop tricks to up-beat music, improve core strength, tone body, boost self-confidence, and most of all, have fun! Bring your own hula hoop or use ours! This class is sometimes held outdoors during the summer months so please email [email protected] for more information on the times and locations of this unique class.

Ecstatic Dance

Ages: All Ages

Description: Ecstatic dance is a form of dance in which the dancers, sometimes without the need to follow specific steps, abandon themselves to the rhythm and move freely as the music takes them, leading to trance and a feeling of ecstasy. The effects of ecstatic dance begin with ecstasy itself, which may be experienced in differing degrees. Dancers are described as feeling connected to others, and to their own emotions. The dance serves as a form of meditation, helping people to cope with stress and to attain serenity.

Bhangra/Bollywood

Ages: All Ages

Level: All Levels

Style: Progressive

Description: This Indian dance fusion will be your next favourite! These upbeat and invigorating dance genres embrace the essence of Indian culture and wraps the ethnic style with some fitness flare. This class features traditional Bhangra and Bollywood dance moves set to classic Bollywood tunes with great beats and jacked up Bolly-remixes. In addition to learning the moves, you’ll explore strengthening your body in all the areas which support this style of dance. The fitness components of the class will use elements which target Bollywood essentials including arms, legs, buns, and core. No dance skills are required to take this class and all levels are welcome to explore the colourful nature of this Indian dance class. Come out and experience how you can have fun while melting away into the exotic flavours of India! It’s time to twist those light bulbs and stack those books!

Jazz Dance

Description: Take more chances, dance more dances! This class will combine techniques from ballet and mold it with modern and popular dance for a fun filled energetic class. This class can be done in bare feet, runners or jazz dance shoes. Learn to do footwork, leap, turn quickly, pivot, jete and pirouette. Inspiration from many dance genres may be covered in this class including but not limited to hip hop, show tunes, cabaret and other popular genres. Learn all the moves to feel empowered and own originality on the dance floor!

Line Dance

Ages: All Ages

Level: All Levels

Style: Drop In

Description: Line dancing is great fun because it can be danced with or without a partner! Country Line Dancing is popular throughout the North America and is a favorite in country nightclubs, at weddings and in fitness centers. However, although line dancing may be commonly known with country music flare, line dancing can be done to any genre of music. In this fun and interactive line dancing class beginners will learn about beat, music timing, rhythm, basic dance steps, and will also learn simple choreographed repeating sequenced dance routines that the class will do together in arranged rows. These lines usually face all in the same direction but sometimes line dances are even performed facing each other. Come and join us for a low impact class suitable for all ages, great for the young and the young at heart!

Tap Dance

Ages: All Ages (13+)

Level: All Levels

Style: Progressive

Description: Tap dancers have the unique opportunity to be musicians and dancers at the same time. This tap class will focus on a warm-up, technique, clarity of sound, and musicality. Students will gain experience in traditional tap vocabulary through learning and practicing a variety of tap steps, short phrases, tap turns and choreography using different rhythms supported by a wide range of music. Get those toes a tappin’ in this fun filled beginner friendly tap experience.

Zumba

Ages: All Ages

Style: Drop In

Description: Each Zumba class is designed to bring people together to get their sweat on. Zumba takes the “work” out of workout, by mixing low-intensity and high-intensity moves for an interval-style, calorie-burning dance fitness party. Once the Latin and World rhythms take over, you’ll see why Zumba Fitness classes are often called exercise in disguise. Super effective? Check. Super fun? Check.
